How The Online Program Works
NorthStar Academy Canadaprovides a complete grade 5 through 12 on-line school program for the at home learner. It especially meets the needs of home school families who want an accredited Christian education for their children but want their children to continue studying at home.
NorthStar Academy Canada is intentionally structured to partner with parents, rather than replace them. Parents provide the home learning environment while NorthStar Academy Canada provides the instruction, marking and accreditation. Our program is 'asynchronous' rather than 'real time' which allows parents flexibility in structuring the school day around:
- Travel
- Part-time student jobs
- Student responsibilities in a family business or farm
- Medical treatments
- Sports and music
- Competition schedules
- Courses are designed to work on five-year-old computer equipment and software
- Internet connection time is kept to a minimum through compressed files sent as email attachments.
There is a direct relationship between time on task and student learning. Parents and students need to realize that a quality education will require a full school day and a full school year.
Most students require about 5 to 7 hours per day (25-35 hours per week) for 36 weeks a year to complete the NorthStar Academy Canada program. Parents need to ensure that students enrolled in our program have a relatively quiet place to work for this amount of time under their supervision.
