Individualized Learning to meet your goals and your life
God has given each child unique gifts and abilities. By utilizing a combination of resources, NorthStar's Individualized Program is tailored to meet each student's individual interests, abilities and needs.
Individualized Learning allows you to
- pick your resources
- have a flexible schedule
- exercise your God given responsibility to educate your child
- access funding to support learning
Student Learning Plan
Although Alberta Learning has specific Learner Outcomes, they can be met with many resources. Your teacher will work with you to develop a student learning plan to map out your learning outcomes using the resources you pick and will offer ideas and resource suggestions.
Required Documentation to Register:
- A copy of the child's birth certificate
- Individual Learning Registration Form
- We must receive your Individual Learning registration before the end of September to qualify for funding.
Funding amount
Individualized Learners can use up to $1500.00 to support their Student Learning Plan.
We can order the resources for you or provide you with a purchase order so you can purchase direct from the supplier. We can also refund receipts.
Portfolios
One way we get you know your child is through examples submitted three times a year in a portfolio. Portfolios include a broad collection of student learning samples, and any other assessment tools you feel would contribute to the portfolio. We encourage students to choose the best examples of their progress over the year so we can see a full range of your skills. Portfolios are a great way to demonstrate authentic learning.
