How It All Works

Participants in NorthStar HomeSchool will access all of their lesson resources via our online resource center represented by the graphic below. Our online resource center is hosted by the conferencing software called “FirstClass Intranet Client”, but we just call it FirstClass. We supply the books for your Home School Classes. You will only need to purchase books that your child(ren) need to write in.

STEP 1

After you have selected and purchased your access to the lesson resources for each class, we at NorthStar HomeSchool will customize your online student account so that you’ll have direct access to each of your chosen classes from your FirstClass desktop. For example, if you had chosen the "Language Arts 8" class resources, then you’d see the Language Arts class icon on your desktop like this:

STEP 2

To get to all of your class and lesson resources, simply double click on the class icon to enter into the resource area where you’ll see all of your resources organized for you. Here, you’ll find all of your assignment and lesson folders and conferences, complete with group discussions which you may join if you so desire.

STEP 3

From here, just download the lesson resources, which we call "Lesson Bundles", and you’ll then have the lesson, its many learning resources, and its corresponding assignment(s). And you’re set! You’ll find that these lessons are FULL lessons, not just skimpy outlines of suggested activities. To get an idea of just what awaits you in these lesson bundles, please call or email us.

STEP 4

This step is for parents who want to download the tests and quizzes which we provide in addition to the lesson bundles. Parents, you, too, will receive an online FirstClass account which will allow you to access the "Parent Forum" conference wherein you’ll find all of the test and quiz banks and answer sheets. Your parent account is a "shared account" meaning that all parents will share this one account to download the tests and quiz items, and because the parent account is shared, this account does not allow you to send or receive email messages or do any of the other standard functions of a "normal" FirstClass account; the parent account simply gives you access to all of the tests, quizzes, and respective answer keys for you to use as you desire in your home school.
