Individualized Learning to meet your goals and your lifeGod has given each child unique gifts and with NorthStar’s Individualized Program students learn with education that is tailored to their interests, abilities and needs. Individualized Learning allows you to -pick your resources -have a flexible schedule -exercise your God given responsibility to educate your child. -access funding to support learning Educational Plan Although Alberta Learning has specific Learner Outcomes, they can be met with many resources. Your facilitator will work with you to develop an Educational Plan to map out your learning outcomes using the resources you pick and will offer ideas and resource suggestions. Funding amount Individualized Learners can use up to $1300.00 to support their Educational Plan. We can order the resources for you or provide you with a purchase order so you can purchase direct from the supplier. We can also refund receipts. Portfolios One way we get you know your child is through examples submitted three times a year in a portfolio. Portfolios include a broad collection of student learning samples, and any other assessment tools you feel would contribute to the portfolio. We encourage students to choose the best examples of their progress over the year so we can see a full range of your skills. Portfolios are a great way to demonstrate authentic learning. Weekly Emails Our facilitators keep in weekly contact with families through email. We recognize that students learn continually – not just when they’re using curriculum. Our weekly emails are designed with this in mind. We want to hear about all of the informal learning that occurs during your week. Facilitators use that information to guide and assess student learning. You may be surprised by how much your student is learning by baking with you, exploring the back yard, and going on family trips. Weekly Emails
