Thank you for taking the time to log into our school to
get an idea of how we “do” online learning here at NorthStar Academy.
We assume that you have looked at other online programs and
that you will be comparing NSA to these other programs to see which online
program will be the best fit for your family.
Listed below are the main differentiators which set NSA
apart from other online programs:

NSA is not a collection of WebPages; we teach
within a highly graphical, intuitive, and structured conferencing
system which is run by its own FirstClass Intranet Server
(www.centrinity.com). Our online campus has a Student Cafe, Parent
Forum, School News, and Academic area to provide the students and
parents with a great graphically organized online setting in which
they send and receive email messages, download their assignments and
lessons, get their tests/quizzes, and chat in real time.

NSA offers the typical 9-month (36 week) school
year within a 10-month calendar school year. This means that
students have 10 months to complete 9 months of school work;
students have an extra month to complete their work by June when
they begin school on our first official day August. This extra time
gives families options and flexibility to handle travel, technical
problems, non-Canadian holidays and school calendars, student-paced
learning, etc.

NSA offers an accredited
CHRISTIAN-based learning program which is a blend of day school,
home school, and independent study. We have elements of all
three learning models, but we've combined the best of these models
into a new model that we call “online learning”.
