Summary Course Content and Activities:

The Biblical Christian worldview is presented in contrast to the humanist worldviews of Secular Humanism, Marxism/Leninism, and Cosmic Humanism. The course surveys ten essential areas of study: Theology, Philosophy, Ethics, Biology, Psychology, Sociology, Law, Politics, Economics, and History.

Who should be taking this course? For whom is this course designed and intended:

Students interested in developing a solid Biblical worldview and an understanding of other major worldviews will benefit from this study. This course is good preparation for Grade 12 students who wish to enter college where they will encounter thoughts and ideas presented from within the framework of these worldviews.

Philosophy statement for and/or behind teaching this course:

The intent of this course is to lay a foundation of understanding that provides a basis for the student’s own personal worldview. The supremacy of Christ and the Christian worldview is presented as the point of integration for all areas of knowledge. Students will become increasingly aware of the lost condition of those without Christ and will be better equipped to communicate God’s truth.

Major course goals:

Students will:

  • Comprehend the basic components of the four worldviews presented.
  • Demonstrate that the consistent truth of the Christian worldview best fits with reality.
  • Describe how Christ’s Lordship is experienced in each area of knowledge.
  • Face the intellectual challenge to their faith with increasing confidence (I Peter 3:15).
  • Be better equipped to penetrate and influence culture with Biblical truth.
  • Gain a deeper appreciation for God’s truth, beauty and goodness.
  • Be ready to give a positive Biblical defense on controversial ideas and issues.
  • Cultivate wisdom and discernment about viewpoints that oppose Christian values.

None. Religious Studies 25 preferred

Forecasted amount of time required to complete each week’s lesson:

Semester Course: Seven to Ten to four hours per week are required. This includes reading the lessons and completing the assignments.

Description of student evaluations, quizzes and tests:

  • Students will have assignments and quizzes that will count for 50% of the final grade.
  • The final research paper is worth 20%.
    • The mid-term and final tests are worth 30%.

Additional activities:

Students will discuss arising issues in a discussions forum. Parents will be involved in the learning process and students will be asked to discuss elements of the course with them.

Criteria for teacher approval of and willingness to grant assignment/test extensions to students beyond the automatic extension period:

To receive an assignment and/or test extension beyond the automatic extension period, the student must have already maintained regular contact and correspondence with the teacher during the previous weeks of the school year. Along with this, the student must have a valid reason (sickness, major computer problems, etc.) for the extension that has been confirmed by the key parent. The teacher will make the decision for an extension after consulting with the key parent.
